Congressman Ron Paul Gets a Strong Start

Last night’s Iowa caucus brought some surprising results. People were glued to their TVs and computers all across the world as Ron Paul, Mitt Romney, and Rick Santorum battled it out, neck & neck, throughout much of the night.

Ultimately, Romney took the win with 24.6% of the votes, which was only an 8-vote lead over Santorum.  Paul placed a very strong 3rd, with 21% of the vote.

The results were astonishing considering how hard the main stream media has fought to discredit and turn people against Paul.

Despite their vicious attempts to portray him as a nut case and unelectable, his strong showing yesterday shows that people aren’t buying it.

Many of the Ron Paul supporters are upset that he didn’t win Iowa, but we must look at the big picture.

Iowa has a poor track record of picking the nominee

Out of the 5 races since 1972 that did not have an incumbent, Iowa has only picked the candidate that became the eventual Republican nominee twice.

Santorum will not be able to sustain his momentum

Just like Michelle Bachmann, Rick Perry, and Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum is just the flavor de jour. He just happened to get his 15-minutes of fame at the right time, but he will quickly fade from the spotlight.

Santorum’s extreme positions on issues such as abortion and gay marriage make it unlikely that he will gain the support of anyone but strict evangelical, ultra-conservative voters. The statements he has made regarding an interest in going to war with Iran and China will also repel anti-war proponents.

Santorum’s own 19-year old nephew, John Garver, is discouraging people from voting for his uncle, and has instead endorsed Ron Paul. In a piece he wrote for “The Daily Caller”, Garver states:

“If you want another big-government politician who supports the status quo to run our country, you should vote for my uncle, Rick Santorum. America is based on a strong belief in individual liberty. My uncle’s interventionist policies, both domestic and foreign, stem from his irrational fear of freedom not working.”

Popular vote does not decide an election

As much as we’d like to believe that we decide the outcome, the popular vote does not win an election. The election is decided by delegates, and the number of delegates a state gets is proportional to the population of the state. There are a total of 2,282 delegates up for grabs.  A candidate needs more than half to win the Republican nomination, and no one will be able to secure that many until April, so the race is far from over.

So do not be discouraged my fellow patriots. The Iowa caucus was just the first leg of a long race. We must work harder and smarter to spread the truth about Ron Paul.

Here is a short list of things you can do to help Ron Paul in the upcoming primaries:

Register to vote or change your political affiliation to ensure you can vote in your state’s primary

Obviously, if you aren’t a registered voter, get registered ASAP.  If you’re serious about getting Ron Paul nominated, this is CRUCIAL because voting in the primary is the first step towards winning. Many states require that you be registered as a Republican in order to do so. Each state has its own deadline, so check your state’s specific requirements to make certain you register in time.

For those of you who are Democrats, the Blue Republican website is a great source of information. Blue Republicans are Democrats who are pledging to change their voter registration to Republican in order to help secure the GOP nomination for Ron Paul. You can easily change back to Democrat after your state’s primary.

Register as a delegate

Delegates are the super voters who actually vote for the nominee at the Republican National Convention. The popular vote does not decide the nominee, the delegates do! If you’re serious about getting Ron Paul elected, please consider registering as a delegate (you must be registered Republican in order to do so).

Spread the word about Ron Paul

Talk to everyone you know about Ron Paul. His supporters are very passionate and that tends to be contagious, so speak with your friends, family members, and anyone else who will listen. Many people still know very little about Paul.

The majority only hear the false information that the media is spreading,  so it’s up to us to make sure they get accurate information about his consistent record, his stance on the issues, and why he’s the best man for the job.

If you haven’t seen them yet, the Ron Paul super brochures are an exceptional resource. The campaign also offers a variety of issue cards (slim jims). Both are affordable, and great for going door-to-door in your precinct, mailing them to people you know, or keeping them handy for when the opportunities arise to talk to others about Ron Paul.

There are also plenty of great campaign ads and videos that you can easily share online.

Join a local Ron Paul meet-up group

Local groups will put you in contact with other Ron Paul supporters in your area. Groups are very easy to find through MeetUp.com or Facebook. They frequently hold “sign bombs” and informational meetings to help people learn how to campaign effectively. It isn’t all business though! Some of them also plan debate watching parties and other enjoyable activities, so why not support Ron Paul and have some fun at the same time?

Contribute financially to the Ron Paul Campaign

A lot of people hate when candidates ask for donations, but fundraising is absolutely crucial if Ron Paul is to reach voters in the early states. Campaign ads are extremely expensive, and would not be possible without financial support from those who believe in the cause.

The other candidates receive donations from large corporations. Ron Paul does not. The money he raises comes from individual contributors who love liberty and consider their contributions to be an investment in the future of our nation.

It’s the patriots, like you and I, who whole-heartedly sacrifice the little we have in the hopes of overcoming tyranny and restoring our Constitutional freedoms.  Ron Paul has fought hard for our liberties. It is now time for us to fight for him before our rights are stolen from us forever.

It is up to us to keep the torch burning. Our futures and that of our children depend on it.
